A faster Camtasia alternative, with no subscription
Updated
In short
Camtasia is a full-featured video editor: powerful, but it takes time to learn, and it's sold by subscription (starting at $179.88/year). Clarcut takes the opposite approach: you record, and your video is already edited, with zooms, a smooth cursor, clean audio and a background. For demos and tutorials, it's often much faster, for a one-time $44.

Two different philosophies
Camtasia is an editing studio: multiple tracks, effects, annotations, asset libraries and, depending on the plan, AI tools. It's ideal for long, heavily edited training courses.
Clarcut starts from the idea that most screen recordings don't need an editor: zooms land on your clicks, the cursor is smoothed out, and background noise is removed. You then fine-tune in a few clicks instead of building everything from scratch.
When Clarcut is the better choice
- You regularly publish short demos, tutorials or video replies to customers.
- You want a polished result without learning video editing software.
- You'd rather pay once ($44) than pay for an annual subscription.
- You want your videos to stay on your computer.
When to stick with Camtasia
For long courses with lots of animations, quizzes or graphic assets, Camtasia's full editor is still the better fit. In fact, many teams use a fast tool for everyday videos and a full editor for big projects.
