The Screen Studio alternative for Windows

Updated

In short

Screen Studio only runs on Mac, and there's no Windows version on the roadmap. Clarcut brings the same idea to Windows 10 and 11, and also runs on Apple silicon Macs: the camera automatically zooms in on your clicks, the cursor is smoothed out, and your video gets a clean background. Clarcut is free to start, and Clarcut Pro is a one-time $44, while Screen Studio is subscription-only ($29/month, or $9/month billed annually).

Why look for a Screen Studio alternative

Screen Studio made “effortlessly pro” screen recordings popular: zooms that follow your mouse, a gliding cursor, a polished background. But the app is built for macOS and Apple silicon, and its developer has said there are no plans for a Windows version anytime soon.

Since lifetime licenses were discontinued, Screen Studio is also subscription-only. If you record a few demos a month on a PC, you hit both walls: the platform and the recurring cost.

What Clarcut does just like Screen Studio

  • Automatic zooms placed on your clicks, with smooth motion, editable right on the preview.
  • A smoothed-out cursor, with clicks highlighted by a subtle ripple.
  • Photo or gradient backgrounds, rounded corners, drop shadow, and macOS, browser or Windows window frames.
  • 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 and 4:5 formats for every platform, exported as MP4 or GIF.
  • A webcam bubble that moves out of the cursor's way.

What's different with Clarcut

  • Windows and Mac: Clarcut runs on Windows 10 and 11 (no admin rights needed to install) and on Apple silicon Macs, with the same license.
  • Pay once: $44, with one year of updates. After that, updates are optional ($21/year), and Clarcut Pro keeps working either way.
  • Everything happens locally, including subtitle transcription: your videos are never uploaded.
  • No hosted share links: you export a file and post it wherever you want.

Which one is right for you

If you need hosted share links, Screen Studio is still a benchmark. If you work on a Windows PC, switch between a PC and a Mac, or would rather pay once than every month, Clarcut gives you the same polished look on both platforms.
