Privacy Policy

Clarcut is designed to work on your computer. Your recordings, projects and videos are never uploaded, including for subtitle transcription, which is done locally.

Data collected

• Account: email address, name (optional), encrypted password (never readable), Google identifier if you sign in with Google.
• Purchases: license and subscription history, Stripe payment identifiers. Card details are processed by Stripe only.
• Connected computers: computer name, operating system (Windows or macOS) and system and Clarcut versions, technical fingerprint of the machine (irreversibly hashed), date of last connection and IP address.
• macOS waiting list (closed): your email address, if you signed up before the Mac version was released, used solely to announce that release to you.

Clarcut does not use any advertising trackers. The website only uses the cookies required to keep you signed in.

Audience measurement

The website measures its traffic with Umami, a tool self-hosted on our server in Germany. Umami sets no cookies and collects no data that could identify you: it counts page views, where visits come from, device type and country, in an aggregated and anonymous way. These statistics are not shared with anyone.

Why

• To provide your account and activate Clarcut Pro on your computers (performance of the contract).
• To prevent abusive sharing of a license and secure your account (legitimate interest).
• To send you account-related emails: confirmation, password, purchases, update renewal date (performance of the contract).
• To keep accounting records and invoices (legal obligation).

Retention period

Account data is kept for as long as the account exists, then deleted within 30 days of a deletion request. Invoices are kept for 10 years (accounting obligation). App sign-in requests and technical logs are deleted automatically after a few days.

• Stripe (payment and invoicing).
• Brevo (sending account-related emails).
• Google (Sign in with Google, if you choose it).
• Contabo GmbH (server hosting, in Germany).

Your rights

You can access, correct or delete your data, object to its processing or request its portability by writing to contact@clarcut.com. You can also file a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (cnil.fr).
